Welcome to a new school year. My name is Mr. Sartor and I am very pleased to be your child’s teacher here at St. Ignatius of Loyola Catholic School. Grade six is a challenging and exciting year and I am looking forward to meeting each student and facilitating their growth and development. As well as being an important academic year, it is also a time for spiritual and social growth.
This year students will be encouraged to continue to develop exceptional organizational skills. One means of organization (besides this website) will be the independent use of a school agenda where students will record all of their homework, information, and important dates. The agenda is also an excellent communication tool if you wish to pass along any necessary information. Please bookmark this site to easily check for updates, homework assignments and important information.
Our classroom will hopefully become a place where students are excited to learn and share their own ideas. As we all grow together throughout this Grade six year I have three important classroom expectations to share:
1. Be prepared for class. (on time, with necessary materials)
2. Show respect. (for self, for teachers, for others and for school property)
3. Always do your best.
Students in Grade 6 should set aside an average of thirty minutes on most nights for academics. This academic work time may be used to complete unfinished class work, read novels, and/or review material covered in class. If your child has worked hard at home but was not able to complete his/ her unfinished work within the suggested time period, a note in your child’s agenda would be very helpful to me. I strongly encourage students to include reading as part of their nightly routine, as well as bringing a personal novel to school for independent reading. Students should have a novel at school at all times!
I also request (if possible) that students bring two binders, subject dividers, and 2 or 3 boxes of tissues (Kleenex) for use throughout the year.
I hope that we can work together to make this a special year for your child. I look forward to meeting and working with you this school year.
Thank you in advance for your assistance and cooperation.
Sincerely,
Mr. R. Sartor
